What are the standard mileage rates?

Standard mileage rates can be used to calculate the deductible costs of using your automobile for business, charity, medical, or moving expenses. The standard mileage rate is used in lieu of tracking and calculating the actual costs of using your vehicle for these purposes.
 
For 2011, the standard mileage rates were as follows:
From January 1st to June 30th:
  • Business: 51 cents per mile
  • Medical/Moving: 19 cents per mile
  • Charitable: 14 cents per mile  
From July 1st to December 31st:
  • Business: 55.5 cents per mile
  • Medical/Moving: 23.5 cents per mile
  • Charitable: 14 cents per mile
 
For 2012, the standard mileage rates are as follows:
  • Business: 55.5 cents per mile
  • Medical/Moving: 23 cents per mile
  • Charitable: 14 cents per mile
